The African Adventure at Your Feet, but fenced off! Europe’s only crocodile park with 200 or so crocodiles, from babies right up to the huge five metre long adults weighing in at almost 500 kilos. PARQUE ORNITOLÓGICO "LORO SEXI" ("LORO SEXI" BIRD PARK), Plaza de San Cristobal, Almuñécar. Open daily 11.00-14.00 and 16.00-18.00. Tickets, 1.75 euros adults, 1.25 euros children and pensioners. Tropical bird park opened in 1987, which is home for over 1,500 specimens of birds representing almost 200 different species, with the emphasis on the exotic. As a novelty this year the park is offering a parrot show, with performances every 45 minutes. In the upper part of the park is a cactus garden.

Tickets available at hotels and travel agencies, main Portillo bus stations on the Costa del Sol and Algeciras, and at El Corte Inglés. Tickets, 16.50 euros adults, 11.00 euros children. Special prices for pensioners, schools and groups. Selwo is a fascinating adventure in contact with nature. The park covers 100 hectares and is home for more than 2,000 animals from the five continents living in semi liberty recreating the animals’ natural environment. Visitors are taken on a four-hour tour, on foot and in four-wheel drive trucks.
AQUAPARKS

The largest aquapark on the Costa del Sol with wave pools, slides, toboggans, rapids plus Niagara with the Black Hole, and the Blue Pool for adults and children. Also offers mini golf and parrot and sea lion shows.

Tickets, 12 euros adults, 7 euros children 4-12 years, pensioners over 65, 4 euros. Free admittance for second child (4-12) of a family. Discount of 40% after 15.00. Two-day pass available (50% discount on second day) and "7 for 3" tickets (seven visits for the price of three) as well as season tickets. Discount of 50% for Fuengirola and Mijas residents on Saturdays. Wave pool, kamikaze slide, water chutes, Adventure River with winding raft slides and a mini aquapark for the kids. The park also has a full entertainment programme including shows for children, water aerobics (displays and free classes), regional dances and beach volleyball competitions.
BOAT TRIPS

AQUA VISTA, Fuengirola Port. Boat trips with submarine vision. We'll see rocks, small fishes, porcupine fish, seashells and all that is there at that moment, a magic and singular spectacle that you would never imagine to be seen through a glass. Lighting up of sea beds by powerful projectors will enable you to discover a world which is always awake. The boat is a catamaran with three decks. One is covered so that it can sail in winter. CAVES
NERJA CAVES, Carretera de Maro (between Nerja and Maro, just east of Nerja). Tel. 95 252 9520. Open daily from 10.00-14.00 and 16.00-18.30. Tickets, 5.00 euros, children (6-12 years) 2.50 euros. The cave was accidentally discovered by a group of youngsters in 1959 on a bat-hunting expedition and opened to the public the following year. The visit starts with a display of archaeological remains that confirm that the caves were inhabited 30,000 years ago, and continues through the galleries with their magnificent formations of stalactites and stalagmites, the largest an enormous column 32 metres high and 18 metres in diameter, and cave paintings. The Sala de la Cascada with its exceptional acoustics is also the venue for the Festival of Music and Dance that is held in early July.
PUBLIC GARDENS
FINCA DE LA CONCEPCIÓN, Carretera de Las Pedrizas (on the motorway from Malaga to Granada/Seville/Cordoba next to the Limonero reservoir, the turn off for the gardens is signposted just after a large service station). Tel. 95 225 2148. Open daily Tuesday to Sunday from 10.00; last visit 17.30 (until mid-October); last visit 16.30 (intil mid-December) . Tickets, 2.70 euros adults, 1.30 euros children (6-16 years) and pensioners. Membership available to the Asociación de Amigos del Jardín Botánico, (18 euros per year adults; 9 euros pensioners and under 25s), which gives free and unlimited access to the garden. Bus service (61) from the Alameda Principal on weekends and public holidays). Visits include guided commentary. One of the best tropical gardens in Europe, the garden was started by Amalia Loring 150 years ago and includes species from every corner of the globe in addition to an outdoor pavilion which is a breathtaking sight when its "roof" of wisteria burst into lilac flower in spring. The colonial American-style house and Casa Loring museum, a classical temple housing a collection of Roman artefacts, are currently closed to the public for restoration.
MARINE CENTRES

SEA LIFE, Puerto Marina, Benalmádena-Costa. Tel. 95 256 0150. Open daily 10.00-18.00. Tickets, 7.00 euros adults, 5.00 euros pensioners, 5.00 euros children (4-12); children under 4, free. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Sea Life recreates the different natural habitats of over 100 marine species and includes "touch pools" where visitors can handle specimens or feed the fish in the Ray Tank, a Mediterranean reef with anemones and star fish and a walk-through glass tunnel where you can observe sharks, morays and barracudas. Attractions also include "Atlantis, The Sunken City", which recreates the aura of mystery and magic surrounding the legend of the sunken city.
MUSEUMS
MUSEO ARQUEOLÓGICO MUNICIPAL (BENALMÁDENA MUNICIPAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM), Avenida Juan Luis Peralta 49, Benalmádena Pueblo. Tel. 95 244 8593. Open Monday to Friday 10.00-14.00 and 16.00-19.00 (autumn-winter). Entrance free. The museum was opened in 1970 to gather, preserve and display the rich prehistoric heritage of the area, in addition to the collection of 750 Pre-Columbian artefacts belonging to Felipe Orlando García-Murciano, the second most important collection in the country with statues, jewels and utensils, some 2,000 years old, from Mayan, Aztec, Taino and Inca cultures.
MUSEO DE BONSAI (BONSAI MUSEUM), Parque Arroyo de la Represa (near the Plaza Puente de Malaga), Avenida Dr. Maiz Viñal, Marbella. Tel. 95 286 2926. Open daily 10.30-13.30 and 16.30-19.30 (autumn-winter). Tickets, 3.00 euros adults, 1.50 euros children. The Bonsai Museum is unique in Spain and is formed by the private collection of bonsais belonging to Miguel Angel García Gil of some 300 specimens, including a wide selection of olive trees.
MUSEO DEL VINO DE MÁLAGA (OJÉN WINE MUSEUM), Calle Carreras 39, Ojén. Tel. 95 288 1453. Open daily 11.00-15.00 and 16.00-20.00 (until June). Entrance free. Located in an 18th century building which once housed the village’s aguardiente distillery, the museum informs visitors on the types and characteristics of the different wines and spirits produced in the province of Málaga, which sadly will not include Ojén’s aguardiente, as its inventor died before being able to pass on its formula. Guided visits in Spanish, English and French. CASA-MUSEO DE MIJAS (MIJAS MUSEUM), Plaza de la Libertad 2, Mijas Pueblo. Tel. 95 259 0380. Open daily 10.00-14.00 and 17.00-20.00. Entrance free. Museum documenting village life, traditions and trades which also includes a recreation of the 2-square metre room where "El Topo", Manuel Cortés Quero, one time Republican mayor of Mijas, lived in hiding after the Civil War. The museum has now expanded to a third floor and has recreated a mill.

It is also home for a colony of 150 plus Barbary macaques, which are the only free living monkeys in Europe, and can be observed in the Monkeys’ Den St. Michael’s is part of a cave system that includes the Cathedral Cave which is open to visitors and serves as an occasional auditorium for concerts.
